Jeremiah

False Shepherds Condemned and a Righteous Branch Promised

23
Chapter 23
1 "Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the flock of my pasture!" declares the LORD. 2 Therefore, thus says the LORD God of Israel concerning the shepherds who have done evil to my people—you have scattered my flock and driven them away and not attended to them—behold, I am attending to you for the evil of your deeds, says the LORD. 3 I will gather the remnant of my sheep from all the lands where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, and they will be fruitful and multiply. 4 I will raise up shepherds over them, and they will shepherd them. They will no longer fear or be shattered, and none will be missing," declares the LORD. 5 Behold, days are coming, says the LORD, and I will raise up for David a righteous shoot, and he will reign as king and he will act wisely and he will do justice and righteousness in the land. 6 In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will dwell securely. And this is his name, which they will call: "The LORD Our Righteousness." 7 Therefore, behold, days are coming, says the LORD, and they will not say any longer, "As the LORD lives, who brought up the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt." 8 For rather, "As the LORD lives, who brought up and who brought the Seed of the house of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where they drove them there"—and they dwelt upon their ground.
